{copycat} Chuy’s Creamy Jalapeno Dip Recipe
Have you ever been to Chuy’s?? If you have, you know exactly what Creamy Jalapeño is! You KNOW the deliciousness!!!
If not, it is the most heavenly sauce/dressing/dip you’ve ever tasted. A cool, creamy blend of ranch and jalapeño. It is so good I could drink it, I’ve almost done that as a matter of fact!
This recipe comes super close to Chuy’s version and that makes me so happy. I can have Creamy Jalapeño every day if I want to!
Now before you comment “there’s no way this is even close to the original recipe, my cousin worked in the kitchen at Chuy’s and this isn’t it“. Thank you, we know it isn’t exact but it is delish and we’re completely happy with that!
Ready for the fun part? Here’s a video showing you just how simple it is to recreate this restaurant favorite at home! Watch & see for yourself!
Next, I just had to figure out the Texas Martini too which you can pair alongside some Creamy Jalapeno Chicken Enchiladas. Because if you like this dip, you’ll LOVE the enchiladas! Links to both of these yummy recipes are found below.

mmmmm. I miss Chuy’s. I used to live in Moorpark, Ca and was told once that that was the first Chuy’s. I heard recently it went out of business and wasn’t sure if it was all or just that one. I am so glad you shared this with us at Real Housemoms for Fabulous Fridays!
Shari
Chuy’s is going strong here in Texas!
Amy
Moved to Ohio from Texas and have to drive 2 hours to Cincinnati for Chuy’s now. Luckily, over the next 2 years, they are opening 3 in the Columbus OH area. YAY!
Bryan
May be a different Chuy’s. The one we are talking about started on Barton Springs Road in Austin Texas. I don;t think they have expanded to CA yet. Is this the one you remember: http://www.chuys.com/ ?

I’m so in love with this dip! I have been to your site before, and why have I not found this? I love that place, love, love, love – I can’t wait to try this!

I tried this last night, and it wasn’t quite right. The flavor of the green chiles was too strong, and there was a bit too much of a vinegar taste. I didn’t drain the two cans before adding them, but I’ll try it again that way; if that doesn’t work, the next step would be to cut some of the green chiles.
Bevin
Hi Glenn,
I hope you find one that works for you. I have tried Katie’s recipe and it is yummy, but not what I expected for creamy jalepeno dip. I might have to blog my recipe as well! Let us know if you find a combination that works for you!
James
Having previously worked at Chuy’s for almost a year and a half, helping out in the kitchen sometimes, I can honestly tell you you’re missing a couple of ingredients and you’ve a couple you don’t need. Very few people (not even general or district managers) know the exact recipe, because of the exact seasoning blend that the Chuy’s commissary sends all the locations to ensure secrecy and consistency. Valiant effort though, keep trying.
patty
What ingredients do you know are missing? Which ones are not needed? Please and thank you. .
Heather
Hi Patty – nothing is missing that we know of – it’s a fantastic dip and you should try it!
Nick
This stuff is amazing! I made it for a party tonight, and I was pretty much the hero of the party…I constantly heard people saying, “This dip is awesome, who made it?” And when they found out it was me, several people asked for the recipe, and I referred them back to this page!
To be completely honest, this copycat recipe is much BETTER than Chuy’s recipe. It’s both spicier and creamier, and it turns out looking much more green and thick as well. I will definitely be bringing this to more parties, and I just may end up making some at home just for myself! Thank you for posting this, WNaC!
Cheryl
Did you drain the green chilis and jalapeños?
Bevin
Hi Cheryl,
I did when making the dip. It really is a matter of preference. If you don’t drain there may be a more vinegar-like taste to the dip (not overpowering).
jen
This is the best “copycat” recipe I’ve found. I’ve made this recipe a ton of times as it’s my go to party dip now. I think the sour cream is key–usually left out in other copycat versions. I also use fresh jalapeños instead of canned (have tried both ways) and omit the green chilies. I’ve also found cilantro to be optional, in my opinion. Thank you for the recipe!
Chuy's fan
Thank you! We just moved from Houston to the beautiful state of Washington but there isn’t a Chuy’s for like a billion miles from here. We tried 3 recipes today for creamy jalepeno from the web and this was the only one that even came close to what we remember in our last vist 8 weeks, 3 days and 4 hours ago :-). Thanks for posting, will be making often!
Mitzi
I don’t even know Chuy, but I think I just found my new favorite dip! This sounds wonderful.
Jordan
Any ideas for the dip aside from eating it with chips? I have a TON left over and feel like it could be used another way!
Bevin
I love using it for enchiladas or burritos..
Donna
Salad dressing or vegetable dip. Dip chicken tenders in it or coat chicken with it and then cook chicken
Susan Brown
We have used it for a vegetable dip as well.

I was just thinking about going to Chuy’s the other night. Great dip. Pinned it to my sweet and savory dip board. Have a great weekend. :))
Dave
This is by far the best recipe that comes the closest to duplicating this delicious and addicting sauce / dip. I have tried copycat. com’s version and food networks version and neither are as good as this one. The buttermilk is key.
James
My wife and I moved to West Texas from near Waco, Tx. Extremely disappointed there isn’t a Chuys in the Midland/Odessa area, but now with this recipe, maybe we can recreate one the best things about Chuys (aside from my personal favorite-the Beef Fajitas!)
Natalie
Honestly most copy cat recipes never get it right but this one did! It was soo delicious! I didn’t follow the recipe to a T, I kind of just put in a few jalepenos and a few chiles into the blender to add as I went. It turned out better than I could have expected!
Thank you 🙂
Sherry Huebel
Remove stems from the Cilantro. I’ve made this before, although without the garlic. And it’s an amazing dip/dressing. My family loves it. I will definitely try adding Garlic.
Patty M.
Have made the “copycat” version & love it. Am anxious to try this version. Sounds delish. That’s a great idea about dipping chicken tenders in it. Will try that.
We have a Chuy’s here in Marietta, GA & everything there is the best!

We love Chuy’s! Definitely going to give this a try soon!

Do you know if I could use regular milk and not butter milk?
Lori
I’ve never personally tried with anything but buttermilk.
Rae LynnAnthony
I tried your recipe. I really blended everything about 3-4 minutes. The only thing I would change is I used jarred jalapeño and I would add a little extra. Although it may be stronger after I let it sit in the refrigerator overnight. I liked it quite well. I did drain the juice a little.
Venetia Delano
I think this is better than Chuy’s. I use fresh jalapenos, and I add more cilantro. I recently moved to South Carolina from Texas, and I missed my Creamy Jalapeno Dip!!
Karyl Henry
OMG I absolutely LOVE this dip!! I mean seriously, I’ll go and just get chips and dip, plus of course margaritas. I’m for sure trying this copycat version
Leilani
I must be missing something because I see the video of you making it but can’t find the actual ingredients anywhere on this page. Can you help please?
Lori
Leilani,
The recipe portion somehow was not showing, it is visible now. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. Hope you enjoy!
Leilani
Thank you so much I see it now. I have the chicken in the crockpot and going to try you Creamy Jalapeño Chicken Enchiladas tonight. 😊
Lori
You’re welcome!
Megan Peoples
How long can you keep this before it goes bad?
Lori
Hi Meagan, I’ve never had it last more than a couple of days at my house (meaning it was gone). Guessing 3-4 days is safe in the refrigerator.
Susan Brown
We have used it for a vegetable dip as well.
