I am so excited to once again be able to participate with an incredible bunch of women and fellow awesome bloggers in the Winter Edition of Freaky Friday. Don’t know what Freaky Friday is? It is a blog hop where each participant is assigned to another blog. You are to choose a recipe from your assigned blog, make it, eat it, love it, photograph it, and then blog it. Then on the chosen Friday it is revealed who had who’s blog and you hop around from blog to blog looking and drooling over all the yummy foods. It is a blast!


Previously when we participated we made these Mexican Wedding Cookies, Breakfast Blueberry Oatmeal Cookies (which have become a family favorite),  some Dulce de Leche Oatmeal Cookie Sandwiches, and this Lemon Crumb Loaf.

This time I was assigned to Brandi over at Aunt Bee’s Recipes. Go check her out she has some amazingly yummy food over there. It took me forever to finally pick just one recipe to make, although I have printed 12 recipes from her blog that I have now made 3 of and cannot wait to make the rest. Seriously! Look at this Loaded Macaroni Salad, or mmm these Pecan Pie Bars are to die for, or you know you want to try this Slow Cooker Cheesecake. Like I said the possibilities are endless and I had a hard time choosing just one. But finally her Spicy Honey Garlic Chicken grabbed my attention. It did not disappoint and instantly became a family favorite.

I love the idea of making Chinese dishes at home that taste just like you’d get at the restaurant but usually they kinda flop for me and just do not come out the same. This Spicy Honey Garlic Chicken was even BETTER than I have had at the restaurant. I made ours in two levels of spicy because my youngest is a weirdo and hates anything remotely spicy (seriously, he complains that black pepper is too spicy). I sampled both and they were soooo good. I did not make the fried rice but look forward to making it (I cheated and had a premade bag).

Spicy Honey Garlic Chicken

Spicy Honey Garlic Chicken


  • 3 boneless skinless chicken breast, cut into bite sized pieces
  • 1-2 c cornstarch (to coat chicken)
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 3 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 c Chicken broth (I used low sodium)
  • 5 Tbsp honey
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp white pepper
  • 1/2-1 tsp crushed red pepper
  • green onions for garnish


  1. Coat the cut up chicken in the cornstarch. Refrigerate for 30 or so minutes to make sure the cornstarch sticks to the chicken.
  2. While the chicken is refrigerating mix up the sauce. In a small bowl mix together the soy sauce, chicken broth, sesame oil, honey, garlic, ginger, and the peppers (white and red flakes).
  3. Add vegetable oil to a frying pan. Fry up the chicken in small batches, letting drain on a paper towel lined plate.
  4. Drain off oil from pan, then add the sauce and the chicken to the pan. Bring to a boil then reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Garnish with the green onions and serve over fried rice. Enjoy!

    I made this tonight and it was very good. It was a tad spicier than I wanted so next time I will use 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes instead of a full teaspoon. But it was so good.
