You’re going to love this recipe for a Slow Cooker Hot Roast Beef Sandwich! Dinner can be on the table in 2 hours (even with the slow cooker!)
I have been wanting to do a sandwich since last yearΒ when I bought my husband a box kit (shipped) of Chicago Style Hot Roast Beef.Β It was so good – but I was like – um … I can do this!Β And I can – well at least my version of it.Β So don’t yell at me if you’re from Chicago – I know it isn’t the exact same (but it’s so good).
This Slow Cooker Hot Roast Beef Sandwich recipe would make a great freezer meal.Β The only disclaimer that I want to add is that I only cooked mine in the slow cooker for 2-1/2 hours.Β I don’t know how it would hold up beyond that.Β So my suggestion is to freeze and if you’re working use it on a non-work day.

I lived in Chicago for 18 years and they do have a great roast beef sandwich, but this sure looks like the next best thing. π I <3 my crock pot, and will definitely be trying this recipe soon.
Heather
April – THANKS! I was worried a die hard chicagoan would be mad at me using the reference π

I LOVE chicago beef… grew up there. When i have gotten the beef kit to bring home the place I buy from tells me to cook the broth and spices a few hours and then add the beef the last 20-30min. I am definitely going to try this recipe out!

I love Chicago – end of story. period. the food is just the icing on the cake (I mean they invented the brownie there – enough said). I hope you like this – it’s not EXACTLY the same – but it has a great flavor to it π

This looks really good. How many servings does this recipe (and most of your other recipes) make?
Heather
about 6-8 sandwiches. Most of my meals make enough for a family of 4 (ish) π

Hi, I made the RB sandwiches last nightβ¦it was great to come home from a day of fun at the pool and toss stuff into the crock pot for 2 hours. My family loved these! My kids are 9 and 11 and gobbled them up. No one else would eat the Pepperoncinis, so I just added them to my sandwich. π
Just one question: Is the sauce supposed to be more like a thick gravy or a jus like a French Dip? It came out more like a jus, so I served it on the side to dip which everyone was just as happy about. I could add cornstarch at the end just as easily to tighten it up. Was just wondering, though. Thanks!
PS: This easily serves 4 with some for left overs if you make them with a big, crusty roll.
Heather
Kristy – I loved them too! So glad you enjoyed π
I did NOT thicken my sauce…I did like you and dipped. You could also dip your roll in the juice before putting the beef on π

do you know how many calories are in one sandwich?
Heather
No Sorry I don’t

These sound great! Has anyone tried using these ingredients with a roast then slicing it thin? Thinking it might make for a good 6-8 hours crock pot meal that way????
Heather
it would probably be DELICIOUS! If you make it let us know π
TC
It may take 10 hour on low for the roast to be cook enough, I have a recipe that says that and that it wont work on high.
Heather
I am not using a raw roast in this recipe! I cheated!!!!! It’s lunch meat! π
Erika
If planning to make these as a freezer meal, how long can they be kept frozen?
Heather
I have kept some of my freezer meals in the freezer for about 45-50 days I think. Make sure to squeeze all the air our when putting it in the bag to put off freezer burn! Enjoy these they are yummy!

Ooh! One of my favorites! Love this recipe!

If frozen, do you wait for it to thaw before you crock pot it or can you put it in frozen? I assume a longer time would be needed, but I am not sure it would taste the same? thanks
Heather
Hey Christine! I put it in mostly frozen π It’s why I LOVE my slow cooker so much! I have found that it doesn’t really change the time all that much. The slow cooker is it’s own brand of magic π

Single Dad of three teenage daughters. We made the “30 summer meals” last year and this was by far their #1 meal. We have since made this recipe many times. We use “Black Forest Ham” from Walmart. Yeah – I’m cheap like that. I think the key are the pepperoncini’s. Slow cooking them gives the meat great flavor. Thanks for the wonder ideas!

OMG these sandwiches are great. Made this recipe this past Sunday because the football game was on and it was easy for me. My two sons loved them. Making again tonight at their request. They also told me not to loss the recipe, that is how much they loved them. Thanks for sharing this recipe, it is a keeper in our house.
