This recipe was so easy – and I have to be honest – SO DELISH! We loved it – the next time I make it I’m doubling to have more leftovers! I really loved how comfort food this was – exactly what I need some nights! I’m making more so my husband and I can use the leftovers for lunches! It was that good.
Slow Cooker Chicken & Gravy is the perfect weeknight dinner or really? I wanted it for a good old fashioned Sunday Dinner (did you have those growing up???). Whenever you make it you won’t be sorry – my family begs for this dinner A LOT! Which means I don’t hear groans when my family asks what’s for dinner. When I answer them with “Slow Cooker Chicken & Gravy” it’s so nice – they are happy, I’m happy, we are all happy (hey I hate making dinner and having someone tell me that they don’t like it…)

It is truly one of those super simple recipes that makes life with soccer practice, book club, t-ball games, etc so easy! Just throw it in the slow cooker and forget it! We need those kinds of recipes – right friends? I know that I do. And nothing beats walking into the house and smelling dinner already done. That’s the perfect night for me!
I served Slow Cooker Chicken & Gravy over mashed potatoes, but it could go over noodles or rice just as well!

I make this all the time. My kids call it soup chicken. I use cream of celery instead of chicken (I just like it better) and add a splash of milk. If you don’t plan ahead, this also works great in the oven!

When you say “If Freezing combine all ingredients in freezer bag”, do you mean the noodles or mashed potatoes too?

No Laura – You don’t want those in the crock pot 😉 Combine the ingredients that are to be put into the crock pot – not what it’s served with! Enjoy this one – I love it!

I have made this same recipe in my oven, with just butter and chicken. Instead of cream of chicken, you can also use cream of mushroom. It is really good!

This recipe was a hit. When I throw it all into the crockpot I also had a carton of fresh cut mushrooms. Yes, the mushrooms get all soggy but I prefer to think of them as infused with gravy. I like mushrooms though and serving this concoction over rice is glorious. The other thing I do (when it’s all in the crockpot) is add just a tiny smidge of Old Bay seasoning. I currently have an Old Bay addiction but I like the added spice. A little Old Bay goes a long way so be cautious. Yummo!

I found this via Pinterest and it was delicious. I made rice to go with it. The gravy was too thin for us, we like gravy a little thicker. Any suggestions to make it a little thicker?

Melissa – you could always take some of the gravy out of the slow cooker and thicken it up on the stove with corn starch 🙂 Glad you liked it though!

is there anyway of making this over 10 hours, or if I do it for 8 hrs, if it stays on warm for 2 hours after that, is it still good?

I’m sure that would be fine – if you have a slow cooker that can turn itself down to warm – I would do that (although quite honestly I would have it turn to warm an hour early because in my opinion it still cooks for a while on warm)

I tried this about 6 months ago, my family favorite. This goes in the bi-weekly rotation each month. I shread the chicken when I get home from work and add 2c. frozen mixed veggies and give it a stir. By the time that I take the grands biscuits out of the oven, evenything is hot and ready to eat. Awesome EASY dish!

This might be a silly question, but I want to be sure- If I’m freezing this does it go in the crockpot frozen for 8 hours, or do I thaw if all first?

No need to thaw completely. I put a meal in my fridge overnight – I pop it into the crock pot in the am and let it go for 8 hours – it cooks whether thawed out or not (putting it in the fridge makes it much easier to get it out of the bag – doesn’t thaw it the whole way)

On Freezing – I read through the comments – the chicken does not need to be cooked, just put the RAW Chicken, Jar of Gravy and can of soup in the baggie and freeze. Then when cooking just thaw it out overnight and cook as directed. Thanks in Advance.

Hello! I’m from the UK and our “gravy” doesn’t look like that (It’s more watery and is dark brown, generally) and doesn’t come in a jar! Do you know what I could use as a substitute?

You could thicken some chicken broth – add a few spices if you like!

I’ve been doing this one for @ 30 yrs. Remember, your chicken breasts do NOT have to be fresh. You can use good frozen ones. Just throw them in the crock pot. I actually prefer them, they add to the liquid of the dish. Yumm!

I am looking to come up with fully pre-cooked meals (already fully cooked in slow-cooker) to then freeze until the night before I’m ready to use, thaw overnight & simply reheat for supper. Will that work with this dish or will it make the chicken dry out?

I have bags of frozen chicken from costco, can I just put the frozen chicken in a freezer bag with gravy and soup and then put into freezer? Then thaw overnight when I want to cook it.

I made this last night for mw and my 5 kiddos, 2 of which are 2 & 1 years old and everyone loved it!! I shredded the chicken and we just scopped it out onto some mashed potatoes. It was delicious.
