Sometimes the simplest of side dishes make the BEST side dishes! One such item would be Grilled Onions, simply delicious! Next time you grill, try them!
I must have onions when I have steak! I think it’s in the rule book of being Heather! Seriously it’s such a good combo!
But, come on when the grill is going and I’m not “cooking” inside? Am I going to dirty a pan? Absolutely not! So I decided to try my luck by putting them on the grill! It turned out great and I love it. I’m eating them this way from now on! As a side note – I let my onions cook for 1/2 hour. If you want them more done (mine were cooked but not mushy) let them go longer!
I also used plain yellow onions for mine. I can’t WAIT to try this with a Texas Sweet or Vidalia – YUM!
Grilled Onions
Ingredients
- 1 medium onion
- 1 T butter
- tinfoil
Instructions
- Cut the top and bottom off of onion and peel
- Place in tinfoil
- Put butter on top of onion and cover with foil (I wrap twice because I don't want the butter leaking out and charring the onion)
- Cook on second rack (or non-direct heat) for 1/2 to 1 hour depending on your taste (my grill was between 350-400 degrees)

I made these stuffed with a beef bullion cube and butter. Good. Thanks for the idea.

I agree with the above with a beef bouillon cube, and maybe some mushrooms. Thank you so much for sharing this on our BBQ Block Party.

Mushrooms are a good idea too – love this 🙂
