Sloppy Joes have always been a hit in my house, but until I made this recipe I didn’t know that they could be everyone’s favorite food. My kids and my husband are now asking for these sloppy joes at least once a week – and I think they would honestly eat it twice a week if I’d serve it! They are that good.
Making easy dinners is the way to go – at least in my house. We live busy lives with jobs, kids, and a dog! So I don’t always want to make a hugely gourmet meal…Picadillo Sloppy Joes to the rescue. They honestly have such a fantastic flavor and I can serve them with chips or green beans – they go with everything. Dinner during the week should be quick, tasty, and amazing – this recipe has that covered for sure!
What are the ingredients in Picadillo Sloppy Joes?
- 1 pound ground meat (I used hamburg – you could use turkey)
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- Olive Oil
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 can 4.5 ounce chopped green chiles
- 1/2 C chopped green olives
- 1 1/4 C chili sauce
- 1/4 C chopped prunes
- 1 Tbsp lemon juice
- 1 C Water
How Easy is it to make Picadillo Sloppy Joes?
You can have them made in just a few quick steps – This is a fantastic 30 minute meal!!!
First cook the chopped onion with some olive oil – about 5 minutes or until the onion is softened. Add the garlic and cook for about another minute.
Add in the ground beef and brown the ground beef. Drain any excess fat.
Add in the remaining ingredients. Give it all a big stir and let it slow simmer for at least 10 minutes (sometimes I do 20).
When most of the excess liquid has evaporated – serve up on a bun!
