Orange Chili Shrimp Cocktail
Have you ever tasted something so fresh and bright it instantly brings a smile to your face? Flavors fresh and full of life, with just a hint of zing. You’ll get all of that and so much more in this amazing Orange Chili Shrimp Cocktail.
Now first off, most of us have the image of a traditional shrimp cocktail appetizer in our heads. Go ahead and erase that image for a bit and journey with me into a more untraditional version, almost a salad of sorts.
Orange Chili Shrimp Cocktail has the feel of ceviche to me, a very beachy-flavored taste of the tropics dish. Enjoy it as an appetizer, or as a light lunch or dinner option. Quite honestly, this paired with some tortilla chips and a sensational Margarita…BOOM you have yourself a fiesta!
The difference between this dish and ceviche of sorts is this recipe uses cooked shrimp. Now if you live somewhere with easy access to freshly caught shrimp…bonus, if not you can certainly use frozen shrimp that you cook and cool. Just make sure you have purchased peeled and deveined shrimp, or if you’d like you can peel and devein yourself.
What is ceviche?
A Latin American seafood dish typically made from fresh raw fish cured in fresh citrus juices, most commonly lemon or lime, and spiced with ají, chili peppers or other seasonings including chopped onions, salt, and coriander. You may also see it referred to as cebiche, seviche, or sebiche. I’ve even had versions with octopus and freshly chopped tomato. There are all sorts of varieties depending on location.
I practically lived on authentic ceviche made with Mahi-Mahi while spending a couple of months on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. Simply amazing, I can still remember the taste and smell, if prepared correctly it is out of this world great! Often it is served with saltine crackers alongside, but I much prefer a good-quality tortilla chip.
Serve this tasty dish for any occasion when you want to bring your guests’ tastebuds alive, it will not disappoint. Be sure to allow the dish to 30 minutes in the refrigerator prior to serving, this will help the flavors to come together.

- If possible, use real lime juice, it will make a huge difference.
