We’ve all been there, you’ve forgotten that you signed up to bring dessert! Ugh! That’s when you need to know my secret to Decorating Cupcakes in a Snap!
You know the scenario, weeks ago you signed up for an event and volunteered to bring dessert. At that moment when you signed up you thought, I’ll make something easy like cupcakes. Great. Until you forget, the day arrives, the panic sets in, and you realize you have an hour until you need to be out the door with cupcakes in hand. No worries, I’m gonna help you today by introducing you to how I’ve been decorating cupcakes in a snap.
A cake decorator I am not! I will be the very first person to admit to the fact that I am not talented in the cake decorating department. I love frosting. In fact, I like it more than what it is generally on top of. Having the ability to make pretty, decorated items from frosting is just not something that has worked for me…until now!!!
Take a small journey with me to the baking aisle at my local Meijer store. That’s where I found a little gem: Pillsbury™ Filled Pastry Bags! The lightbulb moment happened as I discovered that keeping these in the pantry meant I could whip up pretty decorated cupcakes (and more) in no time! Have you tried these? They are new on the market. If not, let me tell you, there’s no stress involved. You can whip up decorated cupcakes in no time with the greatest of ease. Decorated cupcakes that you can be proud of!
Basically, the frosting is in a pre-filled Pastry Bag. That’s great, but it gets better, trust me. There’s a built-in star tip right there on the end of the bag. You don’t put anything together, nothing to assemble!
Simply grab the frosting bag, push the frosting down toward the star tip, and twist the top of the of the Pastry Bag. Next, remove the plastic cover over the star tip, simply tear, and discard.
Now the fun part happens, squeeze from the top of the pastry bag and get decorating! You can make stars, rosettes, or waves with the built-in star tip.
I kid you not when I say I have no decorating abilities when it comes to frosting. And yet…with the Pillsbury Pastry Bags, I decorated cupcakes that looked like I spent time and had some true decorating abilities. My kids even got in on the decorating. The flow of the frosting was perfect, not too stiff or runny.
For these cupcakes I took a simple yellow cake mix and made it into Lemonade Cupcakes. I added 4 tablespoons of powdered lemonade flavored drink mix into the batter, then I baked according to package directions.
The flavor popped, especially when topped with Pillsbury Cream Cheese Frosting. Of course I added some finishing touches, like these cute little yellow decorations that looked great on top of my decorated cupcakes. Simple, tasty, and delicious!!!
I’m going to keep a supply of Pillsbury Filled Pastry Bags in my pantry from here on out. With the busy fall and holiday seasons coming up, along with last-minute entertaining, I know I’ll be using them frequently.
They come in great flavors too: vanilla, chocolate fudge & cream cheese, a flavor for every dessert out there. Picture decorated brownies in a flash, cookies, or even a cake. The possibilities are endless.
