Don’t do the overly sweet take out – use your slow cooker and make Slow Cooker Sweet and Sour Pork! Way better than take out – and cheaper too!
I am always trying to come up with new ideas for the slow cooker. I like the flavors of asian inspired dishes simmering all day in there, so I decided to try this recipe for Slow Cooker Sweet and Sour Pork. Quite honestly, I would never order this at a Chinese restaurant because I think it’s TOO sweet and sticky for my taste – but I wanted to try it on my own – so here comes Sweet and Sour Pork! YUM!
A few notes…I left my green peppers in big half pieces because I didn’t want them to be over done. You could definitely cut them down but they will be more on the “overdone” side 🙂
I also used pre-cut pork (it wasn’t pricey!) it was cut pork loin (almost like pork stew meat). You could use the same, cut a pork loin yourself, or even use boneless pork chops and get the same yummy results – your choice!

- 1/4 C rice vinegar
- 1/4 C soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp ketchup

Am I reading correctly; with these meals do I mix everything, veggies, meat, sauce, etc., and put all these ingred. in a large plastic freezer bag and freeze until ready to use? If I am right, this is just wonderful and from my thinking would be great on your budget.
I love my slow cooker and use it a lot so these meals would be great for me.
Thank you!
Heather
yup – it’s that easy. 🙂 Mix and freeze basically 😉

Is it 16 oz pineapple juice or one, 6 ounce can of pineapple juice? There is a space between the one and six and I wanted to make sure I used the right amount. Thanks!
Heather
Yeah – sorry that is probably confusing 1 of the 6 ounce little cans (you can buy them in a 6 pack). 😉 Enjoy – I LOVE this dish

Thanks! Good thing I asked before making it. Have you ever tried this recipe with bone-in chops? That was my choice for on-sale meat and was wondering if it would still taste good.
Heather
I think that I have? I think it would taste great – just wouldn’t be pre-cut into bite size pieces – which is fine!

If you want to freeze this to use later, do you have to cook the pork before you put it in the bag with everything? Or will it cook when you put it in the pot?
Heather
no you don’t cook the pork 🙂
Cayla
does it need to be rice vinegar, specifically?
Heather
Sorry for the delay – Rice vinegar works good in this recipe but you could absolutely put plain in 😉 Enjoy – I LOVED this recipe!

Can splenda be substituted for the sugar? I am trying to cut down in mys sugar consumption.
Heather
I think splenda would work fine!
