If you have children with Barbie dolls, I hope this post inspires you to use a Brother P-Touch label maker, it couldn’t be easier and you’ll feel great about controlling the cutter while attempting to get organized.

Organizing the Barbie Clutter in your Home

January is National Get Organized Month, and boy it couldn’t have come soon enough at my house. I have 2 girls under 7 and let’s just say that Santa was very, very generous with the Barbie’s, their housing, transportation, clothing, and accessories this past Christmas!

There were all things pink, sparkly and girly found on Christmas morning. Which has led to 2 very happy young ladies in my home, but along with that has also come a kajillion small items, clothing, and accessories spread across my home from Miss Barbie and her fun-loving well-clothed posse!

I decided it was time to contain this clutter, as even my kids were overwhelmed. Prior to Christmas, they had inherited a small boatload of vintage Barbie’s and accessories from their older sisters.

I say vintage because they were from the ’90s! Both older daughters had massive amounts of these to handover to their younger siblings.

So on top of the newly acquired Christmas items, we were contending with the older Barbie’s, and together all of them were starting to take over the play area. Therefore…we needed some organizational help.

I decided that plastic containers and drawer units would be welcome additions to the Barbie area. They’d help with organizing the plethora of shoes, boots, and accessories that come along with this beloved doll.

And to help further ease the organization of these items, I used a Brother P-Touch. Why not make easy to read labels clearly identifying where all items should be housed? It’s a great plan!

My 1st grader is learning to read, I had her help me make the labels. By the second label, she was a complete pro, making labels on a Brother P-Touch is not only easy but fun.

Together we chose a cute heart “frame” for the wording and a font that she agreed with.  Within 2 minutes of us taking it out of the package, we were creating awesome labels.

So easy to use! My daughter practiced her spelling while creating the labels!

We chose a larger 3 drawer unit to contain the furniture, horses (yes, every Barbie has to have a horse with a sparkly mane no less), and the overflow Barbie’s. Then we chose a fun 6 drawer unit that has more shallow drawers for the smaller items.

When shopping for our organization items I found some small clear bins that fit nicely into the drawers, we labeled them so that they can easily go in and out of the drawers with all the little items.  So easy and it was so much fun once we got started.

So simple to start organizing!

  1. Create your labels with a Brother P-touch!  Let your creativity flow!
  2. Label small bins for little items.  This helps in easy clean-up.
  3. Label the outside of each drawer with the item names.
  4. Fill each plastic bin and enjoy your organized area.

All we used for this project were multi-draw units, small plastic bins, and our Brother P-Touch and white P-Touch Tape. You’ll find all sorts of uses in your home for your Brother P-Touch label maker, here are some areas you’ll enjoy organizing:

  • Pantry Items
  • Linen Closet
  • Laundry Room
  • Mud Room
  • Cleaning Supplies
  • Garage
  • Tool Shed
  • Closets
  • Media Area
  • Home Office

Contain the larger items in deeper drawers, these units even come with wheels so they are easy to move around your home.

I have a really old labeler, but it is so handy to have. We don’t have Barbies anymore, but we have plenty of stuff that needs to be organized!

Kids just require things labeled, don’t they? Just last week I had to label something that had to go to school with my first-grader, and out came the P-Touch!

No Barbie clutter here yet, but will Little Pet Shop, My little Pony, and every Disney Junior character count? We have plenty of that!
