Find out how I help my kids learn the value of Helping Others During the Holiday Season.Ā

If there’s ever a time to help my kids learn about the spirit of giving, it would be during the holiday season. Now that’s not to say that I don’t encourage them throughout the year, I truly do. Instilling a generous spirit in our kids is something both my husband and I strive to do.

My kids are now old enough to understand the importance of giving to others by donating during the holiday season. Each has brought home lists from school for organizations that are asking for specific donation items during the holiday season. As the lists have come home we’ve discussed the reasons these specific items are needed.Ā Then I’ve had them choose items they would like to donate from the lists.

The very first item on one of the lists: Diaper Wipes. Yes something as simple as diaper wipes are desperately needed at so many care organizations. My youngest daughter decided we should start with item #1, so off we set to Meijer for our purchase. We chose to purchase Huggies Natural Care Wipes, they are fragrance-free and hypoallergenic. While in the Meijer baby section, we also purchased Huggies Little Snugglers Diapers.

I purchased Huggies Natural Care Wipes and Huggies Little Snugglers Diapers because I used both when my kids were still in diapers and they are wonderful products. Choosing to purchase them at Meijer was also very important. Why? Because Meijer donates to the National Diaper Bank via the “No Baby Unhugged” donation program, a vitally important program.

Did you know that diapers are not covered under food stamps and WIC? This makesĀ it difficult for many parents who need to purchase diapers. This is the 4th consecutive year that Huggies and Meijer have partnered, allowing customers to give back by purchasing Huggies products. In total Meijer will donate up to $10,000 and Huggies will donate up to 150,000 diapers to the National Diaper Bank Network through the Huggies “No Baby Unhugged” program.

Purchase Huggies Little Snugglers DiapersĀ from Meijer (11/13/16- 1/2/17). Meijer will donate $1 and Huggies will donate a days worth of diapers to the National Diaper Bank.

There’s an additional way to help by using your smart phone. Simply download the Huggies Rewards App, enter the rewards code from Huggies Little Snugglers Diaper packaging and donate the reward points to the National Diaper Bank. An easy way to help!

I simply keep the items we’ve purchased for donations in a basket. A very simple way to keep track of what we’ve purchased until we physically donate the items. My kids like taking inventory and adding to the basket as we’ve made purchases.

Feeling good about our donation items, we’ve now focused onĀ other ways to give back during the holiday season. Below I’ve listed some things we have participated in this year or in years past, all great ways to help your kids see beyond their world and give back to others.

Other Ways to Help your Kids Give Back:

  • Donate gently used coats/hats/winter apparel.
  • Make cookies/sweets for community helpers.
  • Send holiday cards to active military members.
  • Color/draw pictures for a local senior center.

It is very important to start kids off with a culture of giving while they are young. Great job! #client
