This week we are bringing you Joanne! She’s so awesome and a great blogger – I’m going to let her explain the rest! THANKS Joanne – I know this was a lot of work 😉 ~ Heather
Your Website? What’s On The List How did I come up for the name of the my blog I hear you ask? lol Everyone “clips and snips” recipes, adds them to a folder and says, “One day I’m going to make this!”; knowing at the time they never will, but this does not stop people from further “clipping and snipping”, saving pamphlets and columns from newspapers and magazines. The folder continues to get bigger and bigger and we all continue to add more recipes. I have now decided at the age of 50 to open my What’s On The List folder and see what recipes I have clipped and snipped over the years and decided to challenge myself with new ingredients, new techniques, foods and world cuisine dishes I would never in a million years thought not only would I try, but “actually do!”
I am VERY proud of myself in achieving the following:
to name a few!
I pride myself on being a “sort of storyteller” and incorporate events and people from my childhood into my blog posts; current friends all play a part in my blog with al l having pseudonyms for privacy.
When did you start blogging? I started blogging the 25th I had never heard of a blog, did not know what a blog was, did not even know I wanted to do one. I am self-taught with computers and when I sat down to see how difficult starting a blog with be, I had my blog “up and running” within a half hour with my first blog post. I then waited to see if someone in the “big wide world” had seen it and looked forward to my first blog comment. When friends found out I started a blog, I had over 200 emails congratulating me, encouraging me and inspiring me to do! For those emails, I am “humbled, proud and honoured” that SO many people within the first 24 – 48 hours worldwide took the time to send me an email cheering me on and welcoming me into the wonderful world of blogging!
What’s your favorite thing you have published? It is so difficult when someone asks me this as I have published different post for a variety of reasons.
If I had to list three: not in any order…
— I love supporting Australian farmers and Australian producers who are as PASSIONATE about their foods and what they do
— the photo “really” speaks to me
— I love the history behind Roza’s Gourmet Sauces and the story of Merchette made my blood rise and felt “slightly naughty” sharing the story
— I am a PASSIONATELY E-X-C-I-T-E-D blogging ambassador and BIG fan of Homefresh Experience, a local business whose Brand Manager Stephen Curtis has an “extraordinary” philosophy; to make a difference “eating fresh”, “cooking fresh” and making a difference in how “children of all ages” experience all world cuisines
— I was so “humbled and honoured” in being asked to be one of the judges of this inaugural event
— In my eyes, each and every finalist was a winner on the day
— this post is extremely special to me in sharing Princess Svetlana and how “priceless” and “beyond words” her life long friendship means to me
— to be able to touch something we both worked on in 1976 was “eerie”, “spooky”, beyond emotions”, “fascinating”; take your pick
Bloggers you love? Once again, a difficult question as there are so many wonderful bloggers throughout the world that support me, lift my spirits and brighten my every day. It give me great pleasure in sharing and taking the “personal approach” to blogging whether with fellow food bloggers, new bloggers starting out, companies etc. I am a VERY proud South Australian who loves spreading the word about what makes Adelaide great; its food, its wine, tourism, events and Australian sourced and produced products; my list goes on!
Not in any order as I never play favourites, but if I had to list three…
Lorraine from Not Quite Nigella has been in my corner from Day 1. While I have not met Lorraine in person YET, she has provided a blog and friendship support that is greatly appreciated; no question is ever too silly or stupid to ask. Lorraine always provides sound advice, guidance and she “genuinely inspires” me every day to want to be a better food blogger. Indirectly I started my blog due to Lorraine and look forward to the day we meet that I can “personally” thank her too; have done to date and her “soft encouragement” goes a long way with me.
I am a BIG fan of her blog too!
Maureen from Orgasmic Chef has always been there for What’s On The List and me! I have not met Maureen to date but she will soon be in Adelaide on a food related event so am VERY E-X-C-I-T-E-D and look forward to my first “Aussie-American hugs”; Maureen is born and bred in the States too! As a new blogger, everyone questions what they do, how they do it and why. When I started my blog, I set simple rules for myself as I always wanted to be true to myself, and to simply “be me!”
Maureen has provided “friendship guidance and support”; sometimes I don’t think HOW important her words of encouragement “on dreary days” mean or meant to me.
Faith from an edible mosaic; everyday flair with everyday fare Again, I have not met Faith YET, but we seemed to have a connection from the start! I LOVE Faith’s blog and her cookbooks, projects, enthusiasm for all things food is contagious! I think we have that “New York thing” going on as Faith is from New York too! Faith inspires me in ways as “only” New Yorkers can do!
Biggest flop? Lemon meringue Pie for sure!
I do hope you can laugh along with me when you read my Member of The Month interview via Food.com I hope you notice I have changed my hair colour too!
Biggest success? Seeing the question was no my “biggest success” food wise, I KNOW my “biggest success” to date is surviving cancer TWICE!
My friends call me the Eternal Optimist as I know now other way! I STRONGLY believe the body takes in ALL the mind does say! I think a negative is always a positive and a frown is just a smile inside out! I KNOW that is not how I am going to go!
My “biggest success” has been able to figure out what success means to me. Success is if I can touch “really touch” someone life and make a difference, than that means more than all the money in the world and material things to me!
I have been “blessed” to know I have been successful to date and know I will be successful in the future too!
I hope you have enjoyed learning more about What’s On The List and a “snippet” of me!
Joanne – LOVE LOVE LOVE – this was great 😉 Thanks again and everyone needs to go stop over and say “hello” from Who Needs a Cape! ~ Heather
