This week we are bringing you Cynthia – from What a Girl Eats! Go over and say “hello” from Who Needs a Cape! Thanks Cynthia for volunteering for Blogger of the Week!
My website is www.whatagirleats.com, “Healthy Food with a Global Spin”.
I started blogging in June of 2011. I started it as a way to channel my passion for cooking. I went to chef’s school in San Francisco after I graduated from college. I completed the California Culinary Academy’s 16 month Master Chef program which is a classical French training program. I also took courses in Italian, Chinese, Scandinavian and North African cuisines.
My husband and I planned an Around the World trip for our honeymoon, visiting Australia, NZ, South East Asia, India and Europe, which is where I developed my love for international cooking.
As a full-time kindergarten teacher, I decided to start my blog after I turned 50 and realized that cooking has always been my passion. I love talking about food, reading cookbooks, cooking and eating! Now I love being able to share recipes with others, in hopes that they will find cooking as easy and relaxing as I do!
I have had to stretch myself so much since staring my blog, since I didn’t know anything about technology, social media or photography!
Trying to pick a favorite thing that I’ve published is like choosing a favorite child! Some of my favorite posts, might be just the writing, some are my favorite recipe and some are what I feel is my best photo!
For my favorite post, I giving you “I Love You”. I’ve chosen this one for many reasons. First, I wrote a poem, my “ode” to chocolate. Second, it was one of my very first posts, and the photo as chosen by the Food Porn website, which gave me huge pageviews when I had just 100 or so followers. (That’s when I first discovered Pinterest! Lol!) third it’s gluten free, which I try to feature a lot of on my site. http://whatagirleats.
Favorite bloggers? That’s so hard, because I feel that all of my online friends/foodies are so special and everyone has something different to offer the community. That’s why I feel that we’re really not in competition with each other. I like that I can send fans to sites that are strictly Gluten free, or one that specializes in budget friendly meals, Italian or Asian! I do gravitate towards sites that cook from scratch, use minimal processed ingredients and have beautiful photographs.
My biggest flop? I make the most delicious, simplest mushroom spread. It’s just mushrooms cream cheese and garlic. The problem is, it’s ugly! There’s just no way to make grey food look good! I loved the writing I did for this post, but I’ve never publicized it, because no one will give it a second look! http://whatagirleats.
Thanks again Cynthia – I love love love your blog! Everyone go check out some of Cynthia’s newer stuff like her home made Cesar Dressing (without egg) and Chicken Sate with Peanut Sauce with a cool Cucumber Salad…YUM! ~ Heather
