Cracker Barrel’s Hash Brown Casserole is the perfect solution when you can’t get to your favorite restaurant. Make this copycat recipe in your own kitchen!
Cracker Barrel’s Hash Brown Casserole
Friends, this recipe is pure comfort food and let me tell you, it is so easy to make! This particular dish brings me back to my childhood when there were only a handful of Cracker Barrel restaurants around.
We would always stop at one for breakfast for a special treat in Tennessee on the way to visiting my grandparents in Virginia. Don’t you love thinking back to wonderful childhood memories?
We now have a Cracker Barrel right here in my town. It is one of our favorite restaurants to take the kids. There’s just something relaxing about ordering down-home country dishes that truly define the term “comfort food”.
My young daughter calls it “Crackle Barrel”, no matter what you call it this place has some good stick to your ribs food. It truly has become a family favorite for all of my kids right here in our little town.
This year I whipped up this casserole for our Christmas Day brunch. To be honest, this casserole tastes wonderful warmed up as leftovers. Especially during the holiday season when you have leftover turkey or ham, a bit of this leftover is just perfect. Although it disappears fast if my whole crew is around.
You’ll find all sorts of excuses to make this delicious dish. Don’t let the holidays be the only time you enjoy it, make it on a Sunday…the family will love it.

Thank you for sharing this. I just had to try it but I did not have frozen hash browns. I am praying the freshly shredded potatoes are going to work in it’s place. I did my best to get as much moisture out of them as I could.

Let us know how it turned out! I think that’s why I buy hash browns frozen more often than making them fresh. I am too impatient to get all that moisture/starch out.

Can you make this recipe without the cream of chicken soup? I’m in Mexico and don’t have access to cream of chicken.
Heather
you can find a cream substitute I’m sure

If Cracker Barrel’s portions get any smaller make sure to bring a magnifying glass to your table. We made this with 8oz of sour cream and 8 oz of French Onion dip as suggested in your other options segment. This is truly a very good recipe you have shared with all of us. I really like your style and recipes.

Thank you very much, it is definitely a family favorite at our house. And I agree…Cracker Barrel has started getting stingy with their portions, c’mon we want comfort food! 🙂

I’m thinking of doubling this and baking it in a deeper casserole dish for a party. I’m wondering how much longer it will have to bake (will probably cover with foil for a while so top doesn’t get too brown too fast). Has anyone tried doubling?

I’m not sure how to get the actual recipe, I only see a bunch of pictures, I really want to try this!
