Find out how I’m trying to keep on track with My Easy Goals for Walking More! So simple you can do this too, trust me it isn’t that hard!
I’ll just start by saying I’m not the most athletically inclined person, far from it in fact. As much as I’d like to be one of those dedicated people who are outside running mid-summer, I’m just not. Recently though I’ve made it a new personal goal to get moving a bit more than I normally do. As a work at home mom, I’m here at my desk for the better portion of each day. Yes I run up and down the stairs in my house countless times each day, but other than that I’m really not moving a whole bunch…not so good right?
With my youngest going to preschool 3 mornings a week I’m just now regaining a bit more “me” time. I’ve been in mom-mode for nearly 20 years and I feel at times that my focus needs to get redirected to Lori, yes not mom but LORI! I’ve decided that “nourishing” Lori needs to happen for the entire family to be well cared for. What does this entail? Why let me tell you my basic plan and trust me it is so easy.
First I started with thinking how I could regain a bit of “me” time. We recently moved to a neighborhood that’s perfect for walking, peaceful and heavily treed, an ideal setting for me to not think for a while, just walk and relax. So I came up with a plan for walking knowing that I need a goal. I’m very much a reward based individual, if there’s an end goal I will stick to the plan. The inner mom in me came out and I thought back to the sticker reward charts we’ve all used with our kids, just a more grown-up version. I decided that I’d make mini goals for myself as a reward for walking 5 days each week. I’ll share with you below how I simply made my “goals” on my phone in less than 5 minutes.
The next area I had to tackle in “nourishing” myself has to do with what I put into my body. Breakfast is not my thing, but I need to change that in order to prepare myself for the previous goal of walking regularly. On a recent trip to my local Kroger store I found a couple of items that will help me to fuel my inner strength while getting breakfast in my body.
Grabbing a Kellogg’s Special K Pastry Crisps as I’m heading out the door is so convenient. We all know some days are just BUSY!
And for those times when I can sit down for breakfast I love topping some plain low-fat yogurt with Kellogg’s Special K Granola. Simply delicious and helpful in fortifying me for what lies ahead in my day, including my walks.
Now let me share with you how I easily made a walking plan on my cell phone. Using the Notes section I simply outlined my 4 goals for the month. You’ll see I chose simple things that I personally will enjoy and don’t normally treat myself to during my average everyday life. I even attached a picture of that fancy coffee I set as Goal #1.
As I completed my walks I entered the dates in the Notes section so I could keep track. I then check-marked (see the yellow check mark) the goal when I completed it! And BAM…I earned that fancy coffee! Now moving on towards Goal #2 and earning myself some new sunglasses! I used my iPhone but I’m sure there’s something similar for Android phones too. See how simple this is, I told you it was easy!
